Ghana’s Parliamentary Select Committee for Youth, Sports and Culture is set to hold a meeting with the Normalization Committee of Ghana Football Association(GFA) and clubs in Ghana.

This has become necessary following the inability for the Normalization Committee to end a deal with the clubs and kick off the proposed Special Competition which would have champions represent Ghana in next year’s Africa inter-club competition. The issue has been a matter of concern to the Committee in Parliament since it has been purported that, there has been an entrenched position by the clubs to ensure the Normalization Committee fails.

Speaking on Happy FM’s Anopa Bosuo Sports, Hon Alex Agyekum, Chairman of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Youth, Sports and Culture said, there are plans to meet both parties to hear their side and settle the dust with dialogues though none of the two thus Normalization Committee and the clubs has written to them concerning what they are hearing in the media.

“Nobody has written to us officially about the happenings between the clubs and the Normalization Committee but we have heard some of the issues and we have taken steps to invite the Normalization committee and the clubs”.

“We can’t allow this issue to get out of hands although we have heard the issues in the media, we want to understand both sides and find solutions”, he said.

He added that the failure of the competition will have no Ghanaian club participate in 2020 CAF competitions.

“If this Special Competition is cancelled then it means next year we won’t even get a representative in Africa. Kotoko currently is making us proud in Africa but we need more representations at the continental level”.

“In a mutually respectful way, we must find a way to settle whatever differences they may have. We must think about our football and not egoistic stands. These issues are very unfortunate, we can’t sit and allow the problems to get out of hands”, he stated.
