On this day 13 May 2006 (Exactly 13 years ago) Germany’s Arthur Abraham defeated Kofi Jantuah of Ghana by unanimous decision at the Stadthalle Zwickau, Sachen, Germany for the IBF World Middleweight boxing title.

On this day 13 May 1998 (Exactly 21 years ago) Twenty-seven years after defeating Real Madrid CF in Athens to lift the UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup, Chelsea FC defeated VfB Stuttgart by a solitary goal in Stockholm to claim the trophy for a second time. Substitute Gianfranco Zola was the hero for Chelsea, scoring the only goal on his return from injury with a stunning half-volley seconds after coming on in the 69th minute

Steven Gerrard lashed home an equaliser after the break before Paul Konchesky’s speculative cross put West Ham ahead.

Gerrard’s stunning last-minute strike forced extra-time, with Pepe Reina saving from Bobby Zamora, Konchesky and Anton Ferdinand in the shootout.
Dietmar Hamann, Gerrard and John Arne Riise all scored from the spot for Liverpool, with only veteran Teddy Sheringham finding the net for West Ham.
