The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentarian for the Asawasi constituency in Kumasi, Alhaji Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka has retained his seat.

Muntaka, who was the first Sports Minister for in the late Atta Mills administration, polled 39,095 as against 33,490 by the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Alhaji Alidu Seidu.
Judging by Asawasi standards, Muntaka won by a close shave.

In 2012 Muntaka retained the seat with a difference of about 12,904 votes as against that of the NPP’s, Nana Okyere Tawiah Antwi but in 2016, the NPP has reduced the difference to 5605.
Muntaka won in 2012 with 43,917 votes as against Nana Antwi’s 31,013.
The Asawasi seat since its creation in 2004 has remained an NDC seat. It was carved out of the former Asokwa East (now Oforikrom) constituency which used to be occupied by the NPP.
The other contesting candidates at Asawasi in 2016 were the Progressive Peoples Party’s (PPP) Baba Kompo who got 278 whilst the Convention Peoples Party candidate got 111.

At the La Dadekotopon Constituency collation centre supporters of the NPP are waiting patiently for the final declaration of the results by the Electoral Commission to enable them start jubilating.

But the presence of armed military officers who have surrounded the whole area with armoured vehicles has put the supporters in check.
Collation is still ongoing but judging from provisional results so far gathered.
Nii Amassah Namoale, after being the Member of Parliament (MP) for the La Dadekotopon Constituency for three conservative four-year terms has lost the seat to the NPP candidate, Vincent Odotei Sowah.
The officials from the EC who received the boxes from the various polling stations were only three from more than 200 polling centres causing a delay in the process.
During the 2012 elections by 4.00am, results from the Constituency had been declared already.
NIILANTEYVAn
In the ever controversial Odododiodoo Constituency, current sports minister, Nii Lante Vanderpuije retained the parliamentary seat with 36,606 votes while his closest opponent from the NPP, Nii Lante Bannerman amassed 26,671 of the votes cast.
