Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, Minister for Education has inaugurated the Governing Council (GC) of Tamale Technical University (TTU) at a ceremony at the Ministry of Education (MOE) conference room.

The members of the Governing Council took the oath of office and oath of secrecy administered by the Minister. The 16-member TTU Governing Council is chaired by Dr Al-Hassan Emil Abdulai. The Interim Vice Chancellor is Dr Abdul-Manan Dauda.

Hon. Dr. Prempeh tasked the members to work hard and fast to advance the cause of the new status of the University
“If there is the need for statutes to be amended, please let the National Council for Tertiary Education know about it,” the Minister charged them. He therefore charged the Governing Council to work within their mandate and refrain from introducing programmes without consulting NCTE and NAB.

The Minister announced that the NCTE and the National Accreditation Board (NAB) will be merged soon, and urged Council Members to familiarize themselves with the bills from the Ministry which have been laid before Parliament.
Dr Prempeh further urged members to keep abreast with the Education Strategic Plan 2018 -2030 of the MOE. Under this plan, he explained that the current Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM) versus Humanities ratio of 30:70 will be reversed.

The Chairman, Dr. Abdulai, on behalf of the Council, thanked the Government for the honour done them and pledged to work assiduously to justify the trust reposed in them.
Present to witness the swearing in ceremony were Deputy Minister for Education, Dr. Yaw Adutwum; the Chief Director of the Ministry, Benjamin K. Gyasi; and the Director, General Administration, Mrs. Wilhelmina Asamoah.
