Happy FM, Ghana’s favourite sports station and Donewell Insurance company Limited, in collaboration with Advanced Eye Care Ghana, Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, the 37 Military Hospital and the Accra City Hall under the auspices of the National Blood Bank will on 20th July, 2019 mobilise an estimated 300 units of blood to stock the Blood Banks of the 37 Military and the Korle Bu Teaching hospitals.

Happy FM for over a decade has been the forerunner of this annual Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) of stocking the various Blood Banks with the much needed units of blood.

This year’s event is slated for Saturday July 20 at the premises of the New Accra Metropolitan Assembly office (AMA) between the hours of 7:00am to 5:00pm. There will be free eye screening for patrons by Advanced Eye Care Ghana on the day of the donation exercise.

Programmes Manager for Happy FM, Mr. Emmanuel Akromah extended an invitation to the general pulic to join Happy FM in this laudable exercise.

‘’Happy FM has been helping stock blood banks for over ten years now, we couldn’t have achieved this feat without our loyal listeners and the general public. I am specially inviting all Happy FM listeners and the general public to come out in their numbers to donate blood as their donation will save a life.’’

‘’I am hopeful that with their support we will exceed our projected 300 units.

Thank you for always supporting Happy FM. Keep listening to Happy FM for the best in sports, politics and entertainment’’ he stated.

The Head of Marketing & Business Development at Donewell Insurance Company Limited, Jennifer Bebli in explaining why her outfit joined the exercise she said, “The blood bank always has a pitfall in terms of blood to serve the number of persons who need blood in emergency situations. As a caring organisation, we decided that as part of our way of giving back and saving lives, we came on board to organise the blood donation exercise.”

Meanwhile, the Chief Executive Officer of Advanced Eye Care Ghana Dr. Daudi Mohammed-Ameen a Senior Optometrist whose outfit is joining the blood donation exercise to give free eye screening to patrons said he joined because most eye diseases are can be treated or better managed if detected early and that can be done through screening.

‘’ Eye conditions like refractive errors, that is Myopia, Hyperopia, Presbyopia, Astigmatism can be resolved if detected early and that can only be achieved through screening. Silent sight thieves like glaucoma hardly show any symptoms it is usually too late when the disease is detected a free screening like this one will help a lot of people know the status of their eye and better manage their sight to avert blindness’’ he said.
