The Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi, has stressed the National Democratic Congress will not cancel Free SHS education if the party returns to power.

According to him, ex-president John Mahama will only abolish the double-track system which was adopted by the President Akufo-Addo’s government to cater for the increased enrollment under its flagship Free Senior High School program, due to a deficit in infrastructure.

President Akufo-Addo and his appointees have constantly insisted the NDC will scrap the program.

However, reacting to the president’s comment on Happy FM’s Epa Hoa Daben show with Kwame Afrifa-Mensah, Sammy Gyamfi said the NDC and President Mahama have no intention of canceling the program since they are also benefiting from it.

“We will not scrap Free SHS, the NDC and Mahama when assumed office in 2020 will only abolish the double-tracking system to curb the current miserable condition children are facing under Nana Akufo-Addo.”

He added that “ You know the NDC is experts in building infrastructure, so we will expand infrastructure by building more classroom block unit. The NDC will also streamline the placement of BECE candidates who are now going to SHS. Under this Nana Addo government, the computer selection program is done anyhow.”

“Above all the NDC will also provide quality free SHS by making the teachers get all that they need to aide work and teach effectively,” he opined.

Addressing staff and students of the Bolgatanga Senior High School in the Upper East Region, as part of his 2-day working visit to that region, President Akufo-Addo said Ghanaians will not entrust power into the hands of the opposition NDC in 2020 because of their determination to cancel the Free Senior High School policy.
