Public Relations Officer of Asante Kotoko, Kennedy Boakye Ansah has revealed that the club was forced to get rid of Fatawu Safiu.

Safiu did not return to the club after trials in Sweden.

According to Boakye-Ansah, the $15000 opening offer from Helsinborgs IF was insulting so they asked the striker to return which he refused.

The Porcupines finally lost patience and decided to accept an initial loan deal with an option to buy for a paltry sum of $35000.

“The player didn’t want to return to Ghana so we had no choice but to allow him go for the loan which we are getting $35000,” Boakye Ansah said in an interview.

“The previous offer from Helsinborg IF was insulting so we asked him to return but the player didn’t want to and wasn’t ready to return,” he added

“Playing in the CAF Champions League would have increased his value but his actions and inactions showed he wasn’t interested,so we had to cash in and the money should be in by now.”

The former Portland Timbers and Vancouver Whitecaps youngster netted thrice and assisted two in the 2018/2019 CAF Confederation Cup.

He also scored 11 goals to help Asante Kotoko SC to clinch the Special Competition Tier 1 giving them the opportunity to represent Ghana in the 2019/2020 CAF Champions League.

Following his outstanding performances for the Red side, Safiu was included in Ghana’s provisional squad for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.
