Frenzy, a Ghanaian living in South Africa (SA) has said in an interview that Ghana’s mission in Pretoria, SA has left the Ghanaian community in SA to survive on their own in the wake of fresh xenophobic attacks.

According to Frenzy, they don’t know where help is coming from and Ghanaians living in South Africa are unhappy and living in fear because of the neglects by Ghana’s mission in South Africa.

Black natives in South Africa have for the past week taken to looting and burning of shops owned by other nationals in Pretoria and Johannesburg.

Speaking on Happy FM’s Epa Hoa Daben show with Kwame Afrifa Mensah Fenzy said, “We don’t know what is going on at the Ghana embassy here, if there is a problem we don’t know who to call, We have just been left to survive on our own in this xenophobic attacks. The only time they mind us is when you want to renew your passport.”

“I can say boldly that no one cares. Most of the Ghanaians that I know have been calling are in hiding because they are just burning people’s source of livelihood and you cannot come out,” he revealed.

South African police have arrested dozens of the protestors who claim immigrants, especially Nigerians are taking over their jobs and selling illicit drugs.

However, Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister, Charles Owiredu has said no Ghanaian has so far been attacked in the xenophobic insurrection in South Africa.

He also noted there are no reports that Ghanaian-owned shops or interests have been hit in the attacks.
