AFCON U-23: Black Meteors jet off to Egypt on November 4

Ghana’s U-23 side, the Black Meteors will depart Accra to Egypt on Monday November 4, 2019 ahead of the Africa U-23 Cup of Nations.

The team is in camp preparing ahead of the tournament which kicks off on November 8, 2019.

As earlier reported, most of the foreign based players are yet to arrive in camp and our checks indicate that captain of the side Yaw Yeboah joined the team on Tuesday.

There are reports indicating that some of the teams are not willing to release their players for the tournament, thus Ibrahim Tanko has resorted to giving call-ups to some new players who did not take part in the qualifiers.

Happy Sports  understands that players such as Nicholas Opoku of Udinese, Joseph Painstil of Genk, Dauda Mohammed and Majeed Ashimero are likely to miss the tournament because their clubs have turned down the request from the Ghana Football Association to release their players.

All the invited foreign based players are expected to join the camp by close of this week.

Ghana is in group A of the competition alongside hosts Egypt, Mali and Cameroon.

The Black Meteors will begin their campaign against Cameroon on November 8 at the Cairo International Sports Stadium.

Ghana will be hoping to qualify to the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games for the first time since 2004. But they must first finish in the top 3 at the African championship to make that dream a reality.

Below is the list of foreign based players expected to join the team

Yaw Yeboah

Emmanuel Lomotey

Kingsley Fobi

Kwabena Owusu

Jonathan Osabutey

Samuel Sibo

Joseph Paintsil

Osman Bukarro

Dauda Mohammad

Benjamin Tepetey

Majeed Ashimero

Nicholas Opoku.
