Ministry of Education signs performance and funding agreement with 5 tertiary institutions

The Ministry of education has formalized the signing of the Performance and Funding Agreements with nine centers of Excellence for Development Impact (ACE) hosted by five Public Universities.

The ceremony which took place at the Ministry of Education on 6th November, 2019 saw the representation of five public universities namely the University of Ghana, University of Cape Coast, University of Development Studies, the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology and the University of Energy and Natural Resources.

The Hon. Minister of Education, Dr.Matthew Opoku Prempeh disclosed that the first phase of the African Centres of Excellence (ACE1) project that was implemented by the World Bank chalked a lot of successes in three public universities in Ghana that, the World Bank recommended them for renewal under the ACE impact.

The Minister announced that the program forges ahead with an increase of the Centres for Development Impact from three centres to nine centres hosted by five universities.

“We shall have nine centres of Excellence for Development Impact hosted by five Universities. My congratulations to all Universities and Center Leaders who made it through the competitive selection process”, he said.

He then invited Center Leaders and Vice Chancellors present to introduce their center and brief the audience on what their centers intended to do.

The Africa Centers of Excellence (ACE1) project was launched by the World Bank in 2014 in collaboration with West African and East African countries to strengthen capacities of universities in delivering high quality training and applied research.
