Chairman for the Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) Akosombo, Mr. Guggisberg Asante has stated categorically that GRIDCo is willing to take drastic measures to reclaim all debts owed them by debtors.

In an interview on Happy FM’s ‘Epa Hoa Daben’ he revealed that the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Volta Aluminum Company Limited (VALCO) and the Northern Distribution Company (NEDCo) owe them huge sums of money accumulated over the years. “ECG, VALCO and NEDCo do not pay us after we supply them with power. Over the years, their debt has accumulated to huge sums with ECG, VALCO and NEDCo owing us GH₵607million, $32million and GH₵177million respectively.”

According to him, GRIDCo’s functionality has been affected a lot as they cannot function smoothly without money. “We need money to function. A transformer for carrying power to distributors costs us $1.5million and we also import spare parts for our machinery. He added that, GRIDCo also contracts work to other people because of the vast nature of our operations in the country”, he said.

He made known that the lines carrying power from Tema to Achimota are under maintenance but the contractors have ceased work because GRIDCo has been unable to pay them.

He urged debtors to pay them or they will put in place drastic measures to reclaim all debts owed them. “If we do not hear from the government and those owing us by December 4, we will take drastic measures. If ECG cuts your power supply when you owe them, we will also put in measures to reclaim our money.
