Chairman for workers of the Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) Akosombo, Guggisberg Asante has revealed that GRIDCo is very viable but is not making any profits.

In a phone in interview on ‘Epa Hoa Daben’ on Happy FM with Kwame Afrifa Mensah, the Chairman stated two key reasons why the viable company is not raking in money.

“Sometime back, our tariffs were reduced to about 2.5pesewas per kilowatts and that made us to incur some huge losses. But the government raised the tariffs a bit higher which is still inadequate for our operations. GRIDCo is very valuable but we are not making a head way because our receivables are not matching the expenditure.”

According to Guggisberg, if power distributors especially the Electricity Company of Ghana which receives 80% of power generated by GRIDCo but pays for less than half of the power start paying more and on time, GRIDCo will surely make enough money and bring an end to ‘dumsor’.

Hundreds of Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) staff hit the streets onTuesday to protest huge debts owed the company by the distributors of the power they transport.

Agitated staff of GRIDCo massed up at the Black Star Square Tuesday morning to begin the protest march to the Finance Ministry and later to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) office in Accra.
