The Ghana Armwrestling Federation’s activities has caught the eye of the Minister of Youth and Sports, Isaac Kwame Asiamah and he could not help but shower praise on the fast-growing sport in the country.

The Minister who was pleased with the performance of the Ghana Armwrestling Federation and the ‘Golden Arms’, commended the leadership during his opening remarks when he took his turn at the ‘Meet The Press’ series organized by the Ministry of Information.

He said, “I am proud of the Ghana Armwrestling Team, ‘Golden Arm’ for winning a total of 88 medals at the African Armwrestling Championship they hosted and 18 medals from the 10th Africa Armwrestling Championship. So arm wrestling team kudos. We are proud of you.”

He added that this justifies the call to support lesser funded sports because they will bring the country the needed medals.

Armwrestling will benefit from the multipurpose sports facilities being constructed across the country, the minister said.

Commenting on the recognition, GAF President, Charles Osei Asibey said being in existence a little over three years, GAF hosted one of the biggest arm wrestling events on the continent which is the Africa Armwrestling Championship in 2018 and is hoping to bid and host the World Armwrestling Championship.

He acknowledged the support and assistance given to the Federation by the Ministry of Youth & Sports, Kofikrom Pharmacy’s K-Balm Ointment, ABL’s Eagle Extra Stout Twellium Industries supportive corporate institutions, GAF’s working team and the Pullers also the various corporate institutions and assured them of a much better collaboration in the coming season as they seek to develop the sport across the country.
