State Broadcaster Ghana Broadcasting Corporation(GBC), is calling on government to intervene in the FA’s decision in awarding StarTimes the rights to televise the Ghana Premier League and FA Cup according to it’s Corporate Manager Francisca Bannerman.

GBC issued a statement indicating they were shocked at the media rights awarded to StarTimes after the latter had offered a more superior financial offer than StarTimes.

According to the statement released by GBC, they offered $1,100,000 annually to the Ghana Football Association as compared to StarTimes’ $1,050,000.

Speaking on Wamputu Sports on Happy FM, Bannerman said, “We want government to take interest in this matter because a lot of Ghanaians will be cut off from watching the Ghana Premier League”.

“The FA didn’t treat us well because we provided better money financially ahead of StarTimes and we also want the rights for five years”.

She further said GBC has all the resources to provide coverage for the league and FA Cup.

“We have all the resources to undertake the coverage. When Ghana Football wasn’t attractive after the Anas exposé GBC came to support of the FA”.

“We don’t understand why StarTimes were chosen ahead of GBC. GBC has presence across the country and StarTimes doesn’t have”, she concluded.
