The Baba Yara Sports Stadium will be closed down to allow renovation work, Happy Sports can report.

The 40,000 seater capacity stadium has been in a deplorable state for some time now and will be partially closed down.

According to reports, the facility is set to host this year’s 6th March Independence Celebrations which has led to government officials carrying out works to prepare the venue for the national event.

Works have already begun with seats at the VIP section removed for new installments.

Earlier last year, the National Sports Authority boss, Peter Twumasi in an interview stated that the Baba Yara Sports Stadium should have been closed down some weeks back for renovation works, but due to Asante Kotoko’s participation in Africa the shutdown was halted.

Meanwhile, Asante Kotoko, King Faisal and a host of other clubs that use the venue will have to relocate if the stadium will be closed down entirely.

The last time the stadium saw a major facelift was prior to the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations hosted in Ghana.
