Voters register exhibition, re-registration begin

Exhibition of the revised voters register and re-registration of persons who registered with National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) cards in 2012 begin today.

The exhibition and registration exercises kick off today but the re-registration will end on July 28 while the exhibition  will continue till August 7.
The three-week nationwide exhibition exercise is aimed at providing opportunity for registered voters to verify their information and to make corrections where necessary.
All set for the exercises
The Electoral Commission (EC) has said that it is ready for the exercise and that the needed materials have been deployed to all the 29,000 polling stations across the country.
The Director of Electoral Services at the EC, Mr Samuel Tettey, said biometric devices would be used at all centres to verify those who would come to check their details.
He added that all officials expected to participate in the exercise had been adequately trained and that there would be two officials at each polling station–one being the exhibition officer and the other, the verification officer.
Opportunity for registered voters
He said the exercise would provide the opportunity for all registered persons to check their details and to draw the attention of officials to any needed correction where applicable.
Mr Tettey said the EC had directed its officials to use red pens to cancel the names of persons who had registered using National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) cards.
The exhibition exercise was originally scheduled for May this year but had to be postponed due to a case that was instituted against the EC by Messrs Abu Ramadan and Evans Nimako.
The Supreme Court, in its ruling on July 5, 2016, directed the EC to delete the names of all NHIS registrants and to provide such persons the opportunity to re-register.
The EC last week announced that it had deleted the names of 56,722 persons who registered with NHIS cards from the electoral roll.
It explained that such people had the opportunity to re-register from today, if they so qualified.
