When asked by host of HappyFM’s ‘Epa Hoa Daben’, Doctar Cann if he (Baba Jamal) thinks the election will be postponed to a later date should the fight the coronavirus persist, he replied, ‘As a godly nation, I believe God will intervene and eradicate the virus before election 2020. We should start taking the necessary steps towards the election for God is with us and everything will go well.”

He furthered that the continuous prayer of the nation will be heard and God will heal the nation. “Look at how we all came together as a nation to pray to God yesterday. The Muslim community is also fasting and praying for the nation today and all these are positive indications that the Lord will hear our prayer as we unite and pray for the nation. ”

The politician was however quick to add that even if the virus persisted, the founding leaders of the country had been proactive enough to provide legislative instruments in that regard. “In the same vein that our elections may be disrupted if there is a foreign invasion so can it be possible in this situation but our constitution will take care of that.”

Baba Jamal took the opportunity to also advise the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Madam Jean Mensah to prepare the old voters register as it will be used for the 2020 general election.

The Electoral Commission (EC) which had originally fixed April 18, 2020, for the commencement of the compilation of a new voters register has postponed the registration until further notice.

This is as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The EC said it would review the decision at the end of April or early May this year.
