Ghana Football Legend, Mohammed Polo has eulogized the 1978 Africa Cup of Nations winner and former team mate Opoku Afriyie popularly known as “beyie” as one of the best strikers the country has produced.

The Legendary Ghana striker, died on Sunday at the age of 65.

The family failed to disclose the cause of death of the former Black Stars Team manager.

Mohammed Polo in his tribute to Opoku Afriyie said, “Opoku Afriyie is one of the best strikers the country has produced, he told Happy FM.

“He benched the likes of George Alhassan, Willie Klutse in the national team as he played consistently.

“He scored the two goals in the finals which help Ghana win the 1978 Africa Cup of Nations against Uganda at home”.

He added: “I will compare him to German Football legend Gerd Muller. He is a talent born goalscorer”.

Opoku Afriyie played for both Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak.

He was the top scorer in the Ghana domestic football league in 1979 and again in 1981.

He was the part of the technical team of the Black Stars as team manager during the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany.
