Ghana’s Ambassador to China’ H.E. Edward Boateng, has said President Nana Akufo-Addo’s decision to keep Ghanaian students in China during the Coronavirus outbreak was a right decision which has kept everyone safe.

He made these comments during a virtual panel discussion under the auspices of Global media Alliance Broadcasting Company (GMABC), with two of their broadcasting platforms e.TV Ghana and Happy FM and Kencity Media, owners of Net2, Oman FM and Ash FM

‘’The President took the decision to keep the Ghanaian students here in China. He thought about the issues thoroughly and decided that the best course of action was for everybody to stay here in China. And the president has been vindicated, because not a single Ghanaian in China has died during the covid-19 pandemic’’ he stated.

‘’As an embassy, we accepted the President’s directive to stay in China. But when other countries like America started evacuating their citizens, I went back to the president that we should also evacuate, he said we should keep the students there because it is still the right thing to do. He actually opted to take full responsibility for not bringing the students from China in case of any eventuality. He should be applauded for that’’ he added.

He also advised Ghanaians to adhere to the lockdown directive by the president. “Lockdown is lockdown, if we do between fourteen (14) to twenty-one (21) days, anybody with the virus will begin to show symptoms and will be picked up, thereby containing the spread because we stayed at home. Buy in bulk and avoid going out frequently; that is what we did in here in China. In Ghana, we don’t have enough resources, if the issues escalate, it will be very devastating. Stay home and stay safe’.’

The dialogue which was also carried live on ‘Oman FM, ASH FM and Net2 television also featured Dr. Ama Edwin, a Physician Clinical Psychologist, Mr. Abu Osuman, Minister Counsellor, Embassy of Ghana Beijing China, Dr. Percy Akuetteh Hepatobiliary surgery PhD student and Chairman of Ghanaian Community Association, Wenzhou chapter, Mr. Sampson Opoku, PhD Candidate and NUGS Chapter President, Wuhan-China and Miss Gloria Akpabla Women’s Commissioner, NUGS China.
The dialogue was ably moderated by Samue Eshun host of ‘Happy Morning Show’ (HMS) and Abedi Anim host of ‘The Dialogue’ on Net 2 TV.
