Throwback Thursdays #TBT has become a popular trend used by people all over the world to share and relive their past experiences, however, Kwame Afrifa Mensah, host of ‘Epa Hoa Daben’, contrary to the popular practice dedicated his Throwback Thursday rant, to show his listeners a glimpse of what the future will look like after COVID-19.

Speaking during the rant segment on ‘Epa Hoa Daben’, on Happy 98.9 FM which is usually a monologue of the host discussing pertinent issues of national concern , he said:” There has been projections that the world will go into recession after COVID-19 and the USA, UK and China will not export their food to us down here in Ghana. They will also use the little they have to feed their people. This is the time the Minitry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Gender and Social Protection should come together and formulate policies that will help us sail through the next phase of the COVID-19, if not we will die of hunger”.

He also encouraged the Minister for Gender and Social Protection, Cynthia Mamle Morrison and the Minister for Agriculture, Owusu Afriyie Akoto to equip the headporters (Kayayei) with some skills like dressmaking, bead making, masonry, capentry among others so that these headporters can go back to their villages with employable skills.

“Sharing of food is good but after Covid-19 what happens, this kayayei phenomenon shouldn’t be something we are proud of, so we should find ways of providing lucrative ventures in the villages, so that more people will find it easy living in the village.

Consider setting up district farms, which will be manned by these young people in the villages, provide them with accommodation, pay for their social security and give them monthly allowance that will help them, and they can go back and add value to their communities”, he stated.

Additionally, he expressed a sense of pride in the Ghanaian staple foods.

”Our staple foods are delicious, when you go abroad they are called organic foods and they are so expensive. We need to create district farms to feed ourselves. We must help develop our rural areas so that we can reduce the number of people who migrate from rural areas to the urban and periurban areas.
