A Senior Research Fellow at Ghana’s foremost coronavirus testing centre, Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research, Dr. Kofi Bonney, has said the facility records a positive case of Covid-19 every day.

“Unfortunately for us COVID-19 cases are still going up. Apart from the contact tracing, there is also community spread. Every day there are positive cases, every day. Sometimes on a day we record 150 to 200 on a daily basis but it’s not always,” he told Samuel Eshun on the Happy Morning Show (HMS).

“We sometimes get 3000 samples a day for testing. These are from both hospitals and contact tracing exercises. Social distancing and other preventive measures are not being regarded hence, the further spread of COVID-19.

The only way we can control the virus is to stay home. If we stay away from public spaces, the virus will not spread,” he advised.

He, however, revealed that “No one from Noguchi has been infected by COVID-19. Most of us have done the test and no one has tested positive for the virus.”

Public concerns have been that there is always a significant jump in the numbers when there have been updates on the number of positive cases.

Ghana’s current Covid-19 situation is 2,074 confirmed cases with 212 recovered and 17 deaths.
