The Deputy National Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Chief Biney, has expressed his disappointment over the way President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has handled the issue of the Coronavirus outbreak in the country.

He was of the view that certain steps taken by the President may have caused the spike in the number of confirmed Coronavirus cases.

In an exclusive interview with Kwame Afrifa Mensah on the ‘Epa Hoa Daben’ show aired on Happy 98.9FM, he noted that the Government could have done better in the distribution of food during the lockdown and the way the vunerable in the society were treated during the lockdown.

“It is possible that the movements before the lockdown caused the spread.
We have done well but we could have done better.
The Government did not put measures in place for the poor during the lockdown.
The methods the Government used to share food and how people fought for food could possibly spread the disease.
The numbers have gone high.It got to a point that hunger became more dangerous than COVID-19. See the way food was distributed during the lockdown”, he said.

He furthered that COVID-19 has exposed our fundamental weakness as a country.

Following the lockdown in Accra and Kumasi, the Government announced daily feeding of about 400,000 vunerable people in the society. This exercise, however, resulted in chaotic scenes which threatened the purpose of the social distancing directive.

The Government was thus forced to review the distribution exercise by implementing guidelines that will ensure the safety of distributors and receivers of the food.
