Government’s COVID-19 fight has been abysmal-Ofosu Ampofo

The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo has said that the Government’s fight against the Coronavirus pandemic in the country has been extremely bad.

He made these assertions in an interview on the Happy FM’s ‘Epa Hoa Daben’ show.

“I think it is very abysmal. We brought this sickness to this country. When it began in other European countries, President Nana Addo travelled after being advised. One of the first two cases were from the Norwegian consulate who was part of the president’s delegation.

Health experts talked about the timing of the closure of borders two weeks earlier .Perhaps it would have prevented the disease.

The management of the lockdown was problematic. If you don’t have a house how do you lock the house? When the ‘Kayayei’ were going to their hometown they were returned to Accra.
What should have been done was to keep them and check if they have the sickness, it became a problem that people had to feed them. People were treated like animals. This is why people were struggling and as such when the lockdown was lifted people were happy”, he said.

According to him, the National Democratic Congress offered to give expertise help to the Government to fight Coronavirus. However, the Government ignored them.

He stated that if the Coronavirus is downplayed, it will cause a lot of problem for the country as seen in European countries who downplayed the disease.

In March, 2020, the National Democratic Congress unveiled it 13-member team of professionals to fight COVID-19 and to also collaborate with the government, upon request, on the fight against the pandemic.
