Exactly 14 years ago today the Black Stars of Ghana made their first appearance at FIFA World Cup in Germany 2006.

Ghana began their campaign against Italy in the opening game at the Hannover Stadion

The Black Stars were paired alongside Italy, Czech Republic and USA in the Group.

Ghana lost the game by 2-0 with goals from Andrea Pirlo and Iaquinta.

Below is Ghana’s starting line up for the game against Italy

Ghana: Richard Kingston, John Pantsil, Samuel Osei Kuffour, Mensah, Pappoe (Shilla Illiansu 45), Muntari, Essien, Stephen Appiah (C), Eric Addo, Asamoah Gyan (Tachie-Mensah 89), Mathew Amoah (Razak Pimpong 68).

Subs Not Used: Otto Addo, Sammy Adjei, Issah Ahmed, Derek Boateng, Dramani, Mohamed, George Owu, Dan Quaye, Hans Adu Sarpei.

Italy: Buffon, Zaccardo, Nesta, Cannavaro, Grosso, Totti (Camoranesi 56), Perrotta, Pirlo, De Rossi, Toni (Del Piero 82), Gilardino (Iaquinta 64).

Subs Not Used: Amelia, Barone, Barzagli, Gattuso, Inzaghi, Materazzi, Oddo, Peruzzi, Zambrotta.

The Black Stars qualified to the Round of 16 stage in that competition and were eliminated from the competition by Brazil.

The Black Stars made it into the first round of the tournament after picking wins against Czech Republic and USA.
