Deputy Communications Director for the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Benjamin Nsiah has said that among many things which cause flooding in the country, lack of political will to stop flooding is the number one cause.
According to him, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and New Patriotic Party (NPP) in their years of ruling the country have exhibited that lack of political will.

In an interview with Samuel Eshun on the ‘Epa Hoa Daben’ show, he explained that political parties once in Government, have the power to make and enforce rules and regulations that will ensure that we prevent flooding in the country. “The political parties don’t have the political will to stop flooding. For example, the military can be positioned in town to check sanitation and prevent flooding but that is not done”, he added.

He noted, “The NPP and the NDC do not value human life. What is sad is that it is these same people who will queue and vote for them”.

Supporting his point, he commented that “any serious Government would have sacked the Minister of Works and Housing, Samuel Atta Akyea, by now because he has lied to us on the infrastructure being put in place to end flooding”.

He charged that the CPP is the only party that has the political will to end flooding in the country and as such Ghanaians must support them into power for long lasting relief.

Overnight rains from June 8 to 9, 2020, led to damaging floods in the city of Accra, Ghana. The National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) confirmed one fatality and two others missing.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Works and Housing, Samuel Atta Akyea, has disclosed that about US$10 billion would be needed to construct subterranean drains to help deal with the country’s perennial flooding.
