Eric Agyapong Aboagye, a delegate at the Azaria polling station in the Effia constituency, has been arrested by police in Takoradi for taking a photo of his ballot paper after thumb-printing, Happy FM can report.

The delegate was arrested and immediately sent to the Takoradi Central Police Station.

The Western Regional correspondent for Happy FM, Akosua Gyabaa, told the station that, “There has been a little unrest but the police have caught the culprit at the Azaria polling station. He went to vote and then the police observed that he had taken a picture of his vote. He is now at the Central Police Station”.

According to reports, Member of Parliament(MP) for Effia Constituency, Joseph Cudjoe who had come to the station to bail the delegate, described the arrest as “unnecessary aggression.”

The MP, who is also the Deputy Energy Minister and a three-time contestant for the Effia seat, told the Accra-based station that the aggression going on with the heavy Police presence is all geared at kicking him out of the seat for his competitor, Dr. Adwoa Kwagyiriba, who was initially disqualified.

The Effia seat is being contested by the incumbent MP and Deputy Energy Minister-in-charge of Finance and Infrastructure, Joseph Ato Cudjoe, and Dr. Adjoa Kwegyirba Aggrey, a Lecturer at the Takoradi Technical University.
