Volta Regional Secretary of the NDC, James Gunu has said that despite all efforts by the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) to frustrate people in the Volta Region from registering, the Volta Region’s ‘plan B’ has helped them.

In an interview with Kwame Afrifa Mensah on the ‘Epa Hoa Daben’ show, he stated: “A lot of intimidation, harassment and every strategy that the NPP and the Electoral Commission (EC) want to deploy to suppress our numbers has been done. In actual fact when they were doing it, we called for the withdrawal of all the military and tactics they were using and they refused. So we developed our plan B and I think our plan B has actually worked and will continue to work”
.
James Gunu noted that while he could not share what the plan ‘B’ was, he was confident that the tactics employed by the NPP and the EC can never suppress people in the Volta Region.

He stressed, “For us in the Volta region, we will do everything in our power to make sure that nobody takes us for granted. We are Ghanaians and we continue to be Ghanaians. They cannot deny us our Ghanaian nationality. They tried it during the Ghana card registration, it didn’t work and this registration exercise too they have tried it and it has not worked. We know that on Election Day they are still going to try but it will never work”.

The NDC has constantly accused the NPP of deploying the military to the Volta Region as a means to disenfranchise people in the region. However, the NPP has stated that the military deployment was to enforce the closure of borders amid COVID-19.
