Only one manifesto has been launched ahead of December 7 – News Editor asserts

Editor of the Patriot Newspaper, Peter Bamfo has asserted that the only party which has actually launched a manifesto ahead of the December 7 polls is the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

According to him, what the New Patriotic Party launched as a manifesto does not qualify to be referred to as such. He believes the NPP just rehashed the 2016 manifesto and out of embarrassment has started hijacking policies outlined in the NDC’s manifesto.

“There is nothing in the NPP manifesto and even a Senior High School (SHS) manifesto will not be this poor”, the newsman noted.

He made this assertion in the Editor’s Take edition of the Happy Morning Show with Samuel Eshun on Happy 98.9 FM.

“There is only one manifesto released in Ghana. The NPP has not released any manifesto. The only manifesto being implemented currently is the NDC manifesto. Now, the government is going round engaging stakeholders on policies which were outlined in NDC’s manifesto.

Citing a typical example, Peter noted that the NPP did not appreciate the need for legalizing Okada until candidate Mahama mentioned it at the NDC manifesto launch. “They’re now making u-turns”.

Parliament in 2012 passed the Road Traffic Regulation 2012, L.I.2180 to render the operation of commercial motorcycle businesses illegal.

However, the transport Minister, Kwasi Ofori Asiamah, recently indicated that the NPP government has begun stakeholder consultations to decide on whether to review the law banning the commercial use of motorcycles or implement it.

His statement comes after John Mahama in August promised his government will legalize the commercial operation of motorbikes popularly known as Okada if voted into power in 2021.

“The number of u-turns made by the NPP after the opposition’s manifesto launch are so many. I believe the NDC will have to revise their manifesto by December 7 because the NPP will implement them all and leave no promise for the opposition,” he mocked the ruling government.
