Lawyer Kwasi Amofa-Agyemang who was disqualified at the New Patriotic Party (NPP) primaries in the Bekwai constituency has said that he will still campaign for President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to win this year’s election even though he is running as an independent candidate at the constituency.
Lawyer Kwasi Amofa-Agyemang was disqualified from contesting in the 2020 NPP parliamentary primaries after declaring his intentions to contest the incumbent MP, Mr. Joseph Osei-Owusu popularly known as Joe Wise.
However, he told Kwame Afrifa Mensah on the ‘Epa Hoa Daben’ show, “In this issue of who should contest on the ticket of the NPP in the Bekwai constituency, nobody is talking about the interest of the people of Bekwai. Even as an independent candidate, I still campaign for Nana Addo. And what is happening can affect Nana Addo’s win in the constituency”.
When quizzed by Kwame Afrifa Mensah on what he makes of the President’s comments that he cannot work with persons who have withdrawn from the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) and have filed as independent Parliamentary candidates for the upcoming general elections, Lawyer Amofa-Agyemang had this to say, “As President, he even works with opposition parties. We are all advocating for that. As an MP, your first job is legislation and then providing leadership to the people. Nana Addo didn’t say that he cannot work with independent candidates from Bekwai and he said it in a context”.
According to the independent candidate, if he wins the Bekwai seat, he is positive that President Nana Addo will never stall development in the constituency to express his opposition. Rather, he [Nana Addo] will fulfil his part of the social contract with the people and advance the development of the constituency.

According to reports, history is about to repeat itself at Bekwai, following the intention of Mr. Amofa-Agyemang, who is a legal practitioner, to contest the 2020 Parliamentary elections as an independent candidate.
On November 8, 2008, Joseph Osei-Owusu launched his campaign as an independent candidate after he lost by a single vote to the then sitting MP, Ignatius Kofi Poku at an NPP primary.
