The ‘Serious’ man, Abrantie Amakye Dede and his Apollo High Kings Band will embark on a tour to the United States of America (USA) in August this year to thrill their Ghanaian and US music fans with exciting performances.
Amakye Dede is expected to perform in 10 cities in the USA on the tour dubbed ‘Amakye Dede US Tour 2018’.
The highlife legend told BEATWAVES that the tour will be historic.
With a number of hit songs to his credit, he added that he has assembled his all-time favourite songs to be performed live for his
loyal and dedicated fans who have been part of his success stories over the years without a doubt.
Well known for his exciting and exceptional live performances, the musician has graced the stage with international artistes such Kanda
Bongoman, Meiway, Julius Olando and a host of others.
Led by Akwasi Ampofo Agyei (AAA), Amakye Dede joined the Kumapim Royals as a composer and vocalist in 1973 where he began his career.
The band had hit songs like, ‘Abebi Bewua Eso’, ‘Wanware Me A’, ‘Odo Mani Agyina’ and the seminal ‘Ohohoo Batani’.
Amakye Dede moved to Nigeria, where he had his hit ‘Jealousy Go Shame’. He then formed his own band, the Apollo High Kings, in 1980.
In the 1980s and 1990s, Amakye Dede dominated the highlife scene and has continued to have hit songs in the 21st century. With over 30 albums, Amakye Dede has headlined so many concerts locally and internationally.
Some of his popular songs are ‘Handkerchief’, ‘Seniwa’, ‘Brebrebe Yi’, ‘Mensuro’, ‘Mabre’, ‘Broken Promises’, among others.
He is one of Ghana’s premier highlife artists popularly referred to as “Iron Boy”, “the highlife maestro” and “Abrantie” (English: Gentleman).
He owns a very popular bar in Accra called Abrantee Spot. He and other high-life musicians regularly play live-band music at this bar.
