Absa Bank Ghana LTD has successfully commissioned 10 new boreholes across the country as part of Phase II of its Water for Life Project, an initiative under the Social Impact Response Pillar of its Force for Good agenda. This milestone brings the total number of boreholes constructed to 21, spanning all 11 regions where the bank operates.

The Water for Life Project is Absa’s strategic response to the growing need for clean and reliable water in underserved communities. To date, the initiative has positively impacted over 37,000 people—particularly women and children—by improving public health, sanitation, and reducing the daily burden of accessing water.

Speaking on the initiative, Dr Edward Nartey Botchway, Managing Director of Absa Bank Ghana LTD, said:

“At Absa, we believe access to safe water is not a luxury but a right. Through this project, we are not just addressing immediate needs but investing in public health, dignity, and opportunity for entire communities.”

As part of the Phase II rollout, Dr Botchway joined the Member of Parliament for the Krowor Constituency, Dr Mrs Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, and the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Paul Quaye, to commission a Reverse Osmosis Water Treatment Plant and Borehole at the LEKMA Polyclinic in Nungua. Due to the area’s coastal location, groundwater is highly saline and unsuitable for drinking. The newly installed reverse osmosis system removes salt and other impurities, ensuring a steady supply of clean, safe water for both the clinic and the surrounding community.

Dr Mrs Naa Momo Lartey praised Absa’s intervention:

“Water is life, and by choosing to enter Krowor with the gift of water, Absa has entered the heart of our community—where life is created and preserved. This partnership shows that our story truly matters.”

Dr William Frimpong, Medical Superintendent at the Nungua LEKMA Polyclinic, added:

“This intervention ensures a consistent water supply, supports sterile medical environments, and saves the clinic the cost of purchasing water. It is a blessing to our patients and staff.”

In addition to the Nungua commissioning, senior executives from Absa led parallel ceremonies across the country. Adolph Kpegah, Chief Strategy and Operations Officer at Absa, commissioned the borehole in Whindo, Takoradi, while Fred Nyinaku, Chief Operating Officer, led the event at Akropong Abiriw. Regional managers commissioned additional boreholes in various communities within their respective areas.

Through its Force for Good strategy, Absa Bank Ghana remains committed to delivering life-enhancing solutions that uplift lives and empower communities across the country.
