Absence of dance competitions in Ghana worrying – Veteran dancer cries out

Veteran Ghanaian dancer, Sapei, has expressed disappointment about the absence of dance competitions in the country.

He has said that without these dance competitions, dancers in Ghana will not flourish well enough to put Ghana on the map.

Making an appearance on Happy FM’s Ayekoo After Drive show with Dr. Cann, he lamented: “Absence of dance competitions is a source of worry to us the dancers. That is why we need to appreciate Lawrence Otoo for bringing the idea of dance competitions.”

Sapei stated that he had observed a lot of people trying to put up imitations of dance competitions. However, these persons perform poorly at it because even though they may have the needed resources, they lack the knowledge about how dance competitions should be organized.

The dancer hinted of a dance competition introduced by agile dancer Lawrence Otoo which is set to support an orphanage in the Eastern Region of Ghana.

Ghana’s number one radio station, Happy 98.9FM dedicated the month of September to celebrate the dancers through its drivetime show, Ayekoo After Drive.

The show has hosted great dance personalities like Dancegod Lloyd, Incredible Zigi, Nii Tete Yartey, the Noyam African Dance Institute, Sapei and the Powerpack Dance Academy.
