Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) has confirmed that the Accra Sports Stadium will now host this year’s Top Four tournament.
The competition, which kicks off on August 20, was originally slated for the Baba Yara Stadium. However, following an inspection tour, National Sports Authority boss Yaw Ampofo Ankrah declared the Kumasi venue unfit to host even “colts football,” citing its poor condition.
With the switch, the Accra Sports Stadium, currently the go-to ground for major international fixtures and set to stage Ghana’s World Cup qualifier against Mali on September 8, will serve as the venue for the high-profile pre-season event.
The Top Four features last season’s top finishers in the Ghana Premier League: Bibiani GoldStars, Heart of Lions, Asante Kotoko, and Hearts of Oak. The tournament will serve as crucial preparation ahead of the new GPL season, which kicks off on the weekend of September 12.
