Accra to host Regional Athletics Qualifiers for Paris Olympics

Accra is set to host the Confederation of African Athletics (CAA) Region II Seniors Athletics Championships. The event will take place from June 3rd to 6th, 2024, at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium. 

This exciting competition is a crucial stepping stone for athletes aiming to compete in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Over 450 athletes from 15 countries across the region are expected to participate, showcasing their talent and vying for top honors.  

A strong leadership team, the Local Organizing Committee (LOC), has been assembled to ensure the smooth running of the championships. The LOC is comprised of representatives from various organizations, including sports associations, media, government, and the University of Ghana. 

Here’s a look at the dedicated LOC members:

* Dr. Kwame Baah Nuako (Chairman) – GNPC

* Charles Osei Asibey (Vice Chairman) – Ghana Athletics

* Andrew Ackah – Advertisers Association of Ghana

* Fadi Fatal – IMAX Media

* Rhodalene Owusu Ansong – Ministry of Youth and Sports (MOYS) Representative

* Bawa Alhassan – Ghana Police Service

* Edwin Amankwah – Businessman

* Phillipina Frimpong – Ghana Athletics CEO 

* Christine Ashley – National Sports Authority (NSA) Representative

* Augustine Amissare – University of Ghana Representative

* Daniel Duut – Ghana Athletics Representative
