Dear Government / Employment Minister/ Ministry/ CSO’s,

I hope this write up finds you well. I am writing to offer an advisory opinion advocating for the reduction of employment income taxes in Ghana. This recommendation stems from an assessment of the current economic landscape and its potential benefits for both employees and the nation’s overall economy.

The proposal to reduce employment income taxes is grounded in the following key points:

Economic Stimulus and Growth: Lowering employment income taxes can stimulate consumer spending and boost economic growth. By increasing disposable income for employees, there’s a likelihood of higher consumption, which, in turn, could drive business activities and promote economic expansion.

Competitiveness and Attraction of Talent: Decreasing the tax burden on employment income can enhance Ghana’s competitiveness in attracting and retaining skilled workers. This measure may contribute to a more attractive environment for foreign investors and skilled professionals seeking employment opportunities.

Social Impact and Welfare: A reduction in employment income taxes can positively impact the standard of living for individuals, particularly those within lower income brackets. This measure could help alleviate financial strain and improve the welfare of citizens, fostering a more inclusive society.

Job Creation and Entrepreneurship: Lowering taxes on employment income can incentivize entrepreneurship and small business development, potentially leading to job creation and a more vibrant entrepreneurial ecosystem. This will go a long way to reduce youth participation in crimes and youth tardiness in the country as the youth is the most affected.

Potential Revenue Boost: Although reducing employment income taxes may initially result in reduced tax revenue, the potential for increased economic activity and compliance could lead to a broader tax base, thereby potentially offsetting revenue losses in the long term.

In light of these considerations, I respectfully recommend a review and reduction of employment income taxes as a strategic measure to bolster economic growth, enhance social welfare, and improve the overall business environment in Ghana.

I am available for further discussions or to provide additional information to support this advisory opinion. Thank you for considering this proposal, and I look forward to the possibility of contributing to the economic advancement of our nation.

Sincerely,

Kwaku Opoku

Labour Consultant / Prime HR and Safety Consult
