Elmohamady promises the fans that with the help of Salah, who according to him, is one of the three best players in the world, and the rest of the team, Egypt will lift the AFCON title.

The Pharaohs are set to commence their 2019 Africa Cup of Nations campaign by facing Zimbabwe in the tournament’s opening game on the 21st of June, at Cairo International Stadium.

Ahmed Elmohamady, captain of the Egyptian national football team, has spoken ahead of the game on the importance of having a player of Salah’s calibre, saying the Liverpool winger is one of the best three players in the world.

The Aston Villa full-back, who has two AFCON titles to his name in 2008 and 2010, has also promised the Egyptian fans the AFCON title.

“We are going back to playing at the Cairo Stadium, this is an incentive. We have already won the title in three consecutive editions, and in the last tournament, we reached the final,” Elmohamady said.

“The 2008 edition was the hardest in my opinion, but we still managed to clinch the title.

“The current generation has more foreign-based players than the previous ones, but the goal is one for both generations and that it is winning.

“We are 23 players and we all play as a team. The presence of Liverpool star Mohamed Salah, who is one of the best three players in the world, will help us achieve success in the future.

“We started the team camp at the Borg El-Arab stadium. We played two friendlies and the manager became familiar with all the players technically and physically.

“We promise you that the tournament will be ours,” Elmohamady added.

Ahmed Elmohamady was part of the team that lifted the 2008 and 2010 AFCONs, and also travelled with the team for the 2009 Confederations Cup and the 2018 World Cup.
