The Minority Leader and Member of Parliament for Effutu, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has called on members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to stay resolute and dedicated to the party’s vision as they prepare for the 2028 elections.

In an inspiring message to party supporters, Afenyo-Markin acknowledged the difficulties the party has faced but expressed confidence in their ability to emerge victorious in the upcoming electoral cycle.

He reminded party members that this is not the first time the NPP has faced setbacks. In the 1996 elections, the party’s flagbearer, John Agyekum Kufuor, lost, with the NPP securing only 61 seats, while the National Democratic Congress (NDC) won 133 seats. However, the party made a remarkable comeback in 2000, winning both the presidency and a majority in Parliament. Similarly, in 2008, despite challenges, the party, through prayer and determination, triumphed in the 2016 elections.

Afenyo-Markin also pointed to the NDC’s 2016 defeat, when they lost many seats to the NPP, which gained a majority with 169 seats. Despite this, the NDC fought relentlessly to regain power in 2024, a lesson Afenyo-Markin emphasized for the NPP.

He urged party members to maintain calm and refrain from airing internal party matters publicly, particularly on radio. Instead, he called for patience and a focus on resolving issues internally.

Afenyo-Markin stressed the importance of unity, resilience, and focus, qualities that have always characterized the NPP and will be essential for securing another historic victory.
