President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has officially endorsed Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as the best candidate to succeed him in the upcoming December 7 elections, highlighting his competence, loyalty, and dedication to the welfare of Ghanaians.

Speaking at a ‘Thank You Rally’ in Damongo on Monday, October 14, 2024, the President urged voters in the Savannah Region to rally behind Dr. Bawumia, praising him for having “the capacity and love for the country” needed to continue Ghana’s development.

The rally marked President Akufo-Addo’s farewell to the people of the region, expressing gratitude for their support throughout his presidency. He also paid a courtesy call to Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto Jewu Soale I, the Overlord of Gonjaland, thanking him for his crucial role in resolving the Dagbon chieftaincy dispute.

The President highlighted key achievements of his administration in the Savannah Region, including the creation of the region itself, the construction of three factories under the One-District, One-Factory initiative, and the 80% completion of the Damongo Water Project.

He also noted the construction of 460 kilometres of roads, with 10 kilometres in Damongo asphalted and 300 kilometres of feeder roads improved for better connectivity.

In addition, President Akufo-Addo announced that the Daboya College of Education, formerly privately managed, would be officially inaugurated in two weeks after being absorbed by the government.

On national policies, the President emphasized that 5.7 million students have benefitted from the Free Senior High School program, with 1.6 million currently enrolled. He also reported that 169 factories are operational under the One-District, One-Factory initiative, with 152 more under construction.

Damongo MP and Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel Abu Jinapor, commended the President’s administration, describing its accomplishments in the region as “unmatched”.

He highlighted the long-standing struggle of the people of Gonjaland for regional recognition, asserting, “It is President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo who finally created the Savannah Region”.

Mr. Jinapor declared that the President has attained a “legendary status” among the Gonja people, saying, “This is part of the Akufo-Addo legacy, today and forever. You have liberated the people of Gonjaland and granted us independence”.

He concluded by expressing gratitude on behalf of the Savannah Region, stating: “In addition to creating this region, you have brought unparalleled development in all facets of human life. Your legacy in education, healthcare, agriculture, road infrastructure, and more is unmatched”.
