The killer of Ugandan Olympian Rebecca Cheptegei has reportedly died of severe burns.

The death of Dickson Ndiema Marangach, killer and former boyfriend of Cheptegei was confirmed om Tuesday after going into an unresponsive state. The hospital confirmed that Marangach died at 15:30 GMT on Monday, on admission at the intensive care unit of Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret in western Kenya.

According to credible news sources, Chief Executive Officer of the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret in western Kenya, Philip Kirwa in a statement explained that the severe burns affected vital organs which stymied his breathing. “He developed respiratory failure as a result of the severe airway burns and sepsis that led to his eventual death,”

Kirwa said Marangach had suffered over 41% burns following his assault on Cheptegei, which local media reported to have happened after she returned home from church with her children.

Cheptegei(33), who competed in the marathon at the Paris Olympics, suffered burns to more than 75% of her body in the Sept. 1 attack by Marangach reportedly over a land dispute and died four days later at the same hospital.
