Ambassador Edward Boateng has been named Vice President of the International Alumni Network of the School of Economics and Management at the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, following the establishment of the international chapter of the school’s Alumni Association.

Speaking at the gathering, Ambassador Boateng highlighted the enduring value of alumni relationships and their role in fostering global connections.

Alumni gatherings, he said, serve as reminders that although education may take graduates to different parts of the world, the bonds formed remain strong and enduring.

He described alumni associations as important platforms for dialogue, collaboration and progress, noting that they connect ideas to capital, talent to opportunity, and local insight to global reach.

Ambassador Boateng also pointed to significant shifts in global dynamics, including the redistribution of economic power, increasingly complex political environments and the rapid influence of technology on work, learning and governance. According to him, traditional boundaries between countries, regions, industries and disciplines are becoming less rigid.

He said these changes present both challenges and opportunities for Ghana and Africa, adding that alumni networks can play a key role in deepening partnerships in areas such as technology, education, infrastructure, agriculture and innovation, while serving as bridges between Africa and China.

The event also highlighted the role of institutions such as UESTC in preparing leaders for a future shaped by data, connectivity, artificial intelligence and advanced manufacturing.

Ambassador Boateng said the international alumni network is expected to strengthen collaboration through knowledge sharing, mentorship and business opportunities, while expanding the global reach of the School of Economics and Management.

The leadership of the school was congratulated for establishing the international chapter, with expectations that the initiative will further position UESTC as a trusted academic institution in Ghana and across Africa.
