Former Finance Minister Dr. Amin Adam has taken a swipe at the government’s 24-Hour Economy initiative, saying it has fallen short of delivering the jobs and business opportunities it promised.
Addressing the media on Friday, November 14, while responding to the 2026 Budget presented by Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, Dr. Adam argued that the policy remains poorly structured and has not achieved its intended results.
“The government promised numerous jobs when it assumed office, but those promises have not materialised. Remember the 24-Hour Economy where they said one job would employ three people in three shifts 1-3-3. What has become of that?” he asked.
He added that the initiative has evolved into “a confusing blend of policy ideas with no clear implementation framework,” stressing that many young people who were assured of shift-based employment remain jobless, while farmers and traders continue to struggle with low sales and weak demand.
