The Minority Chief Whip, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, has called for urgent financial support for the National Media Commission (NMC) to strengthen its regulatory role and curb what he describes as increasing “indiscipline” in the media space.

“Speaker the media is a tool we all know how important it serves in the fourth realm estate. They have a role to play however I think the National Media Commission needs to be spending more so that they can be more effective in terms of tracking the activities of media houses,” he said.

During discussions on the 2025 Budget, he raised concerns about the increasing number of media houses operating across the country without strict enforcement of standards.

He emphasized the importance of a standardized national media policy to improve accountability and professionalism in the industry.

He stressed the need for a well-defined national media policy to enhance media accountability and professionalism.

“The NMC is a bit overwhelmed so this is a matter we have to look at, otherwise one day we will get up and all of us will not be happy because people are getting more irresponsible, make all manner of comments, personal attacks all over the place. It is so unjustifiable,” he noted.

He further stressed that the NMC, as the regulatory body, needs adequate resources to effectively monitor and track activities within the media sector.
