Parliament’s Appointments Committee will today, Friday, June 20, 2025, resume the vetting of Justice Kwaku Tawiah Ackaah-Boafo, a nominee to the Supreme Court.
The process was temporarily halted following a petition by one Anthony K. Rau, who accused the judge of misconduct during a courtroom proceeding. According to the petition, Justice Ackaah-Boafo allegedly referred to Mr. Rau as “arrogant” and “power drunk.” The nominee has since denied the allegations, describing them as baseless.
With the petition now resolved, today’s session marks the final leg of the vetting process for all seven justices nominated by President John Dramani Mahama for elevation from the Court of Appeal to the Supreme Court.
Justice Ackaah-Boafo’s appearance is expected to wrap up the Committee’s deliberations on the nominees. The final report, including recommendations for approval or rejection, will be submitted to the full House of Parliament for consideration.
This vetting comes at a crucial time as the judiciary seeks to fill key vacancies at the apex court.
