The University of Media, Arts and Communication (UniMAC), Ghana’s leading media and communications university, on Thursday, January 22, 2026, hosted a high-powered delegation from Ghana’s foremost urban radio brand, YFM, in a move aimed at deepening collaboration between academia and industry.
The delegation was led by the Group Chief Executive Officer of Global Media Alliance (GMA), the parent company of YFM, Mr. Ernest Boateng. The visit sought to build a mutually beneficial partnership with UniMAC and strengthen the bridge between academic training and professional media practice.

The team included the Director of Global Media Alliance Broadcasting Company (GMABC), Dr. Timothy Karikari; Programmes Manager of YFM, Erskine Amo Whyte (Rev. Erskine); and Brownberry, host of the RyseNShyne show. Also present were YFM alumni currently excelling within the organisation, including Reginald Tetteh (Reggie Reg), who was crowned YFM’s Best Employee for 2025; Philip Nii Ankrah (Adjelebi); and Roxanne Quaye, a Sales Executive at YFM.
Welcoming the delegation, the Vice-Chancellor of UniMAC, Professor Eric Opoku Mensah, expressed pride in YFM and the GMA Group for taking the initiative to formally engage the university, describing it as the first of its kind by a major media brand during his tenure.

He noted that the partnership would contribute significantly to Ghana’s creative economy, citing UniMAC’s strong practical orientation and GMA’s leadership within the media industry.
“When it comes to media and communications, UniMAC remains the best in the country,” Professor Opoku Mensah stated. “Our students begin practical work early, with many launching businesses and building influence even before graduation. Our strength lies not in size, but in our capacity to connect meaningfully with industry. We are proud that YFM and the GMA Group have chosen to partner with us.”
He further underscored the importance of aligning academic instruction with industry realities, noting that such collaborations better prepare students for the professional world.
In his remarks, Mr. Ernest Boateng commended UniMAC’s leadership and highlighted the university’s role as a key source of talent for YFM and the wider GMA Group.
“UniMAC has consistently been a feeder of talent for us, through both internships and full-time employment,” he said. “Our relationship has been strong, but as Ghana’s No.1 youth and urban radio station, it is important that we strengthen it further to sustain the impact we seek to create.” He further revealed plans for YFM and the GMA Group to collaborate with UniMAC by leveraging the university’s expertise and resources, alongside industry insights, particularly in emerging areas such as the application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in media and communications, to strengthen student capacity.
Other UniMAC leaders present at the meeting included the Pro Vice-Chancellor, Professor Winston Kwame Abroampa; Acting Registrar, Dr. Obaapanin Adu Oforiwaa; Director of Finance, Mr. Francis Obeng; and Assistant Registrar, Mr. Robert Dadzie, all of whom expressed support for the initiative.
