The Member of Parliament for Akuapem North, Sammy Awuku, has urged the government to reward its dedicated foot soldiers with an all-expense-paid experience at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
In an interview, Mr. Awuku stated that although his suggestion might sound controversial, it would be in the best interest of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) to show appreciation to its loyal supporters who contributed to the party’s victory in the 2024 general elections.
He recalled that under the New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration, there were discussions about rewarding party members by facilitating their participation in the 2018 World Cup in Russia but unfortunately Ghana couldn’t qualify.
Mr. Awuku emphasized that recognizing the efforts of campaigners, particularly the 5K men and 2K women who actively worked for the party would serve as motivation for continued loyalty.
He proposed that at least 20,000 supporters should be given the opportunity to experience the 2026 World Cup as a token of appreciation for their hard work and commitment.
