The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, has cautioned young people against the use of illicit drugs, describing drug abuse as a serious threat to their health, social well-being, and future prospects.
He noted that although the government has put measures in place to support drug users through rehabilitation services, prevention remains the most effective approach. According to him, completely avoiding drugs is the safest and best option for the youth.
Dr Amoakohene reaffirmed the government’s commitment to fighting the sale and consumption of hard drugs and urged young people engaged in drug abuse to desist immediately. He further encouraged those struggling with addiction and willing to change to seek help from rehabilitation centres to safeguard their health and secure a better future.
“As young people, we do not need any form of booster to perform our daily tasks. Any drug taken should be prescribed by a qualified health professional. Unfortunately, the temptation to experiment with drugs during youth poses a serious risk to our health. This is why rehabilitation centres have been established to support addicts who are determined to overcome their challenges. However, staying completely away from drugs remains the safest approach,” he stated.
