Asiedu Nketia: Koku's arrest great news for our demonstration

The General Secretary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) John Asiedu Nketia has posited that the arrest of Koku Anyidoho will serve as a stimulus for its members for Wednesday’s demonstration against the Ghana-US military pact.
Anyidoho, who is the deputy general secretary of the NDC was picked up by the Police following his declaration that there will be a civil coup to remove President Akufo-Addo following Parliament’s ratification of the controversial Military agreement.
During an interview with Happy FM’s Epa Hoa Daben Show on Monday, the outspoken general secretary stated that series of activities to unsettle the Akufo-Addo government will take off on Wednesday, March 28, 2018 with a planned nationwide demonstration.
“On the January 13, 1972 a certain Col. Ignatius Kutu Acheampong led a movement that removed the Progress Party from power. Busia was the Prime Minister and Akufo-Addo’s father was a ceremonial president. Somebody should tell Nana Akufo-Addo that history has a very interesting way of repeating itself,” the NDC firebrand said.
“There’ll be a civilian coup d’etat; there’ll be a social revolution and the movement is starting on Wednesday. He [Akufo-Addo] will be fed up at the Presidency,” he added.
According to Happy FM’s reporter, Emmanuel Bortey ‘Capito’, Anyidoho was picked up at the International Press Centre Tuesday afternoon when the NDC was preparing to have a press conference over the US military deal.
He however refused to be arrested by the Police and decided rather to walk with the officers from the Press Centre to the Police Headquarters.
According to Asiedu Nketia, who is part of the entourage that walked Mr. Anyidoho to the police headquarters told Happy FM that the development will aid in their Wednesday’s demonstration.
He believes the arrest “will be an important contribution to the success of the demonstration.”
“The police have done our advertising for us so our demonstration on Wednesday will be massive,” Asiedu Nketia said.
“Nana Addo became a president through the popular ‘Kume Preko’ demonstration. That’s his major credentials, so why must they arrest someone for airing his opinion.”
“It is my right to demand it so, I cannot be arrested and so is Koku Anyidoho. He can also not be arrested for speaking his mind.”
He said this is not new because, it has always been the hallmark of the NPP in government as General Secretary of the main opposition party.
“I have been arrested on several occasions under the NPP administration for speaking my minds with the likes of Nana Addo in government, the man who claimed to be champion of human rights.”
“If speaking warrants arrest what becomes of the much-touted abrogation of the criminal libel law by then Attorney General and Minister of Justice and now president Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo,” he posited.
