Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Sammy Gyamfi has stated that no amount of money can buy the New Patriotic Party (NPP), a win in the ongoing Assin North Constituency by-election.
News sources indicate cash is being distributed from the camp of the NPP ranging from 100 cedis – 200 cedis to individuals, in an attempt to get more votes from locals of the constituency.
Sammy Gyamfi told reporters while present at the election grounds, that no chaos had been recorded so far. However, he noted that there was a need for effective monitoring of the process “So far it’s been peaceful; but the only problem is the monitoring; but we are not worried; they can share all the money in the vaults of the Bank of Ghana, they will lose the election.” he mentioned.
Meanwhile, NDC official, Dr. Forson in an interview with reporters expressed his dissatisfaction with these acts he termed as despicable, revealing that he had personally witnessed the distribution of money in ten different locations in Assin Bereku, the district capital, and called on the Ghana Police Service to address the issue.
The Assin North by-election features three candidates competing for the vacant MP position: James Gyakye Quayson of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Charles Opoku of the NPP, and Bernice Enyonam Sefenu of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG).
