AUDIO: 'It's not compulsory for Ghanaian musicians to be nominated for BET' – Obour

President of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) Bice Osei Kuffour known in the showbiz circles as ‘Obour’, has stated that is not mandatory for Ghanaian musicians to make it to the Black Entertainment Television (BET) Awards nomination list every year.
On Tuesday, nominations for the 2018 BET Awards were announced but no Ghanaian musician made the cut in the Best International Act category – which has sparked concern amongst some fragment of the Ghanaian populace.
But during an interview with DJ Advicer on Happy FM‘s Ayekoo After Drive Show, MUSIGA chief, Obour has waded in the issue by claiming that it’s not obligatory for Ghanaian musicians to be listed every year.
“Looking at the other nominees on list they performed very well over the year, so is not by force or compulsory that every year a Ghanaian art must be nominated. If a Ghanaian artist wasn’t nominated it doesn’t mean our artists performed poorly over the year,” Obour stated on Happy FM.
“Is worth it for other artist from other African countries to be nominated. Maybe musicians from other country who have not had nomination before did well than the Ghanaians and they must be recognize as well.”
In the past years, some Ghanaian artistes were nominated in the Best International Act: Africa category. Artistes like Sarkodie, MzVee, D-Black, Stonebwoy have earned nominations in this award before.
This year’s awards event, which is scheduled to come off in Los Angeles, USA, will aired live on BET channel on Sunday, June 24.
