Government introduces teacher reforms to improve learning outcomes in Ghana

The Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) has disclosed that on the average, teachers in public schools earn between GH₵1500-GH₵2000 depending on one’s educational level.

Nicholas Taylor of the Administration and Organization Department of GNAT made this revelation during an interview with Samuel Eshun on the Happy Morning Show aired on e.TV Ghana and Happy 98.9FM.

“Our salaries are nothing to write home about. A teacher with a degree will have a take home salary of about GH₵1800- GH₵2000. For a teacher with a diploma, GH₵1500. So, when it comes to our salary, it is bad,” he stated.

Nicholas continued that most teachers are not happy in the profession because of the lack of support from government in terms of the provision of resources needed for the work.

“Teachers are not really happy in their profession because they don’t receive the resources they need to continue in their work.”

He mentioned that successive governments over the years have made so many promises but none have been able to keep to their word.

5th October every year marks World Teachers Day also known as International Teachers Day to celebrate teachers all over the world.

One and a half years into the COVID-19 crisis, the 2021 World Teachers’ Day will focus on the support teachers need to fully contribute to the recovery process under the theme “Teachers at the heart of education recovery”.
